FAQ
Can I use OUTEX for Diving?
OUTEX patented waterproof design is IP08 tested up to 10meters (about 30 feet when the product is applied correctly. When properly applied, the Outex seal is 100% waterproof, but it does not protect your equipment against underwater pressure while scuba diving. OUTEX was designed for shallow water use, so whether at a pool, lake, beach, or even snorkeling, you know your camera is safe. But LUCARE does not guarantee against damages incurred from scuba diving and water pressure.
Will OUTEX work with my camera? What if I have several/different lenses?
Yes. No problem.
Use our automated match maker in our SHOP (link). It helps you chose the right product based on your equipment.
There are 3 different Latex Cover sizes from which to chose; 100, 110, and 130. If you plan to use your Outex equipment with a tripod, make sure to select a latex cover with Tripod Adaptor and to purchase the adaptor itself. Those covers are marked with a “T” by the name; 100T, 110T, and 130T.
You can also click hee (link) to download or see our Matching Table for all makes, models, lenses.
If our table does NOT contain your specific camera, please select the closest match in physical dimensions or contact us for support (link).
Please note; Determine what filters, if any are required for use with multiple zoom lenses.
Most SLR cameras adopt standardized filters. In order to utilize the same latex cover with multiple zoom lenses, ensure that all of you zoom lens filters will match the optical Lens you selected above. The filter dimensions are usually marked on the lens itself. To match a 49mm lens you will need a Step-Up Ring Adaptor, designed to convert from 49 to 52mm.
Finally, chose the right strap and/or holder for your equipment.
Because the Outex latex cover envelops your product, it’s impossible to use the original neck or wrist straps. For that reason, we created customized straps and holders to maximize functionality and ease of use. Chose the right solution based on the above images. The accessories work with all of our products.
Why is OUTEX a better option compared to other products in the market?
OUTEX is cheaper and simpler to transport & use than conventional underwater tank type products. It’s lighter, flexible, and easier to transport, at a fraction of the cost, making it ideal for photographers that aren’t looking for specific diving gear, which OUTEX is not. Most tanks still use acrylic in front of your lens, which also causes some picture degradation. OUTEX uses professional grade, 100% pure glass filters so you don’t have to worry about picture quality loss.
OUTEX maintains tactile feel and picture integrity better than convention bag prodgucts. As mentioned above, OUTEX uses professional-grade, 100% purity glass lenses, not acrylic or plastic. And it maintains your tactile control and access for most camera features. Prices for bag product vary, so check what’s right for you.
Why aren’t the covers transparent (see-thru)?
OUTEX covers have been engineered to mix the right balance of ruggedness, dependability, flexibility, and tactile feedback/feel. Its thickness ensures this balance and therefore prevents transparency. A much thinner coat would allow some visibility, but would produce a very fragile cover. A worthy trade-off, we think.
Do you make OUTEX for camcorders?
We’ve started making OUTEX products for camcorders, but we’re in the experimental phase. Please let us know what camcorders you’re most interested in protecting! We’re working on it.
Why can’t I see the back-panel LCD?
OUTEX covers have been engineered to mix the right balance of ruggedness, dependability, flexibility, and tactile feedback/feel. Its thickness ensures this balance and therefore prevents transparency. A much thinner coat would allow some visibility, but would produce a very fragile cover. We’re thinking about a larger single back-panel viewfinder that would allow it, but still in the testing phase and not yet convinced it’s a worthy trade off. Let us know what you think.
Where can I see it before I buy it? Is it sold in stores?
Make sure to see our images and photos from current users. If you haven’t been to our Community (link) page, check it out. Several dealers have expressed interest in carrying OUTEX, so check back with us for a store near you soon.
Can I use the flash?
Not currently. We’re investigating a solution that would work similarly to our tripod adaptor.
Does OUTEX affect the quality of my pictures?
No. OUTEX uses professional grade, 100% pure glass filters so you don’t have to worry about picture quality loss.
What’s the recommended Product Care?
Keep Outex products in a dry, cool place, out of the reach of children.
To clean Outex products we recommend soap & water. It’s OK to use rubbing alcohol for hard-to-remove dirt spots, but use only water-based products. The Outex latex cover reacts naturally with petroleum based derivatives. Avoid direct contact with all such products. Examples include gasoline, vaseline, etc.
How much does an OUTEX kit weigh?
Outex kits weigh less than 6 ounces (150g) and are easy to store when not in use. Yet it’s robust and long lasting. The thick latex material resists stretching and twisting, making it portable & practical.
What’s the warranty?
Manufacturing Guarantee: All Outex products are guaranteed against manufacturing defects for 90 days from the date of purchase.
Limitations:
The Outex product seal is certified to withstand underwater pressure up to 30 feet (10 meters), but the water pressure may prevent certain functions of the camera and may inadvertently trigger others (such as zooming of the lens or button presses).
The latex Outex cover is not transparent. It therefore requires that the user control the camera’s functionality by tactile feel rather than visually.
The Outex latex cover reacts naturally with petroleum based derivatives. Avoid direct contact with such products. Examples include querosene, gasoline, vaseline, etc.
How long do OUTEX products last? What’s the life expectancy?
The elastic properties of the OUTEX latex covers give it great versatility, but this material is susceptible to tears & cuts if pressed against any pointy/sharp objects. Avoid any contact with sharp objects, points, or edges, as they may cause cuts and tears.
The latex cover is subject to normal wear & tear from normal use over time, and should be replaced accordingly.
The lenses and viewfinder products are designed to last, as are the accessories. And because you can buy products separately, you can purchase multiple latex covers for use with the same lenses & accessories.
